C Church of Christ entral Anvil Groups

Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens another man.

Anvil Groups are our way of ministering to our fellow church members, helping one another grow in Christ.  These groups will meet weekly from October through May.  They will not meet during the summer months due to summer vacations.  At the beginning of the fall season, sign-up sheets will be posted on the church bulletin board for you to select which group you would like to attend.  If you decide to join mid-season, you can contact the church for available seats in each group.

As the groups get started, each will initially meet on Sundays at 6:00 PM.  One group will meet at the church to provide normal Sunday evening service, and the groups will rotate each month.   Anvil groups will NOT meet on the first or fifth Sundays due to previously scheduled special events - Birthday/Anniversary Fellowship on the first Sunday of the month and Fifth Sunday Family Fellowship on the fifth Sundays.

Below are the 3 groups, their meeting locations, and the months when they will meet at the church.  If you have any questions, please contact Bob, either by email or phone: (979) 822-3010 - church office or (979) 229-9041 - cell phone.

Our Ministry and Purpose

INTRODUCTION:  THE BLACKSMITH’S SHOP

In the shop of the blacksmith, there are three types of tools.

There are tools on the junk pile: outdated, broken, dull, rusty.  They sit in the cobwebbed corner, useless to their master, oblivious to their calling.

There are tools on the anvil: melted down, molten hot, moldable, changeable.  They lie on the anvil, being shaped by their master, accepting their calling.

There are tools of usefulness: sharpened, primed, defined, mobile.  They lie ready in the blacksmith’s tool chest, available to their master, fulfilling their calling.

Some people lie useless: lives broken, talents wasting, fires quenched, dreams dashed. They are tossed in with the scrap iron, in desperate need of repair, with no notion of purpose.

Others lie on the anvil: hearts open, hungry to change, wounds healing, visions clearing.  They welcome the painful pounding of the blacksmith’s hammer, longing to be rebuilt, begging to be called.

Others lie in their Master’s hands: well tuned, uncompromising, polished, productive. They respond to their Master’s forearm, demanding nothing, surrendering all.

We are all somewhere in the blacksmith’s shop.  We are either on the scrap pile, in the Master’s hands on the anvil, or in the tool chest. (Some of us have been in all three.)
